Pen Holder Tutorial

I (Bobbi)did a quick tutorial on how to create your own Custom Pen Holder!  It is quick and easy!
You can see the tutorial at:

This was my first tutorial, so let me know if there is anything I can do to improve!  I know I have to get better at my "ummms"  sorry about that!

We are still figuring out the whole video thing, so if you can let us know how to create a screener on our videos that would be great too! Or any other "need to know how's" that would totally rock our world!

BoBunny - Blast Off Collection

Well as many of you might have already read, I have so much paper that I had to go out a buy additional storage (so does Bobbi).  Well since both Bobbi and I just completed the painful process of putting away all of our paper and really cleaning up my scrap rooms, we came to an agreement - NO MORE PAPER until we use some of the paper that we already own.  I swear I really meant it when I agreed to that over the phone with her (I wasn't even crossing fingers or toes as I uttered those words).  In fact I think I was the one who instituted the no paper suggestion (but not sure - Bobbi?).

Well what started out as an innocent trip to Gurnee Mills to buy new tennis shoes from Kohls ended with the purchase of this adorable new paper pack by BoBunny!  I mean I so rarely go to Gurnee Mills (don't like it but that is another post) that I could not resist a quick and innocent trip to Archivers to see what was new!

When I saw the new "Blast Off" collection at Archivers for only $5.99 for the 6x6 pack, I knew I was not leaving the store without it.  I mean, it was only $5.99 and soooooooooooooooo cute.  It would have been wrong to resist it I told myself.  I also swore I would make something super cute with it....  (really I am not going to add this to the paper that I am hoarding - I swear!)  I also had a coupon for 30% off - but ended up using that one a paper punch that I really "needed".

Well tune in this week to see what I make with the paper pack.  I am going to start my project right now.. "I Swear"

Ribbon Organizion Tip by CCS

Hello, my name is Bobbi and I have a problem....a ribbon problem.  Please remember this is a safe place so no judgment!

I will admit have no self control when I it comes to Joann's, Michael's, or Hobby Lobby ribbons.  When I see those ads, I immediately head to Georgia (aka as my PT Cruiser)  and drive down the street for a look.  The problem is...I  NEVER just look...do any of these excuses sound familiar?
  • It's on sale!  I could be paying full price!
  • I can always use ribbon!  HELLO!
  • I am low in this color.
  • I use this color so often, I better get more!
  • It's a bargain, it's in the dollar bin!
  • I have a coupon!
Let me first say, between Christine and me, I am usually the organized one. I love my bins, I love my labels, and yet my ribbons remain OUT OF CONTROL!   I usually have the organizational tips to provide, but not this time.  My trusted partner in crime, Christine, has provided me with some organizational enlightenment and I have to say "I like it!"

On a personal note:I have vowed not to purchase any more ribbon until I get all my ribbon organized so I have a clear idea what I really need.  (Bobbi sighs, she knows that she does not really need anymore ribbon.)

This has been a task I have been putting off for a REALLY long time, but Christine has a great system working for her with ribbon so I have decided to share her process!

Here is my yellow ribbon bin, if I want to look for a ribbon, this is the mess I make....now imagine this X10 bins!  Ouch and a mess!

As you can see my yellow ribbon storage is beyond a mess!  Part of my problem is the ribbon rolls.  They take up too much space in the limited space I currently have.

Although I love the cool ideas for hanging your spools of ribbon, I have too much and would have racks of them.  I need flat storage!

The picture below is the white ribbon bin that I will show how I converted to flat storage.  I need to use plastic shoe boxes to store my white, black and oddly orange ribbon.  All the bins are so overflowed with ribbon I can not even use the lids!

I purchased smaller bins (cross fingers, ribbon will fit) at the dollar store.  I liked these bins because of the flip lids and they are stackable.  So can I get all that ribbon into the smaller bin?  Let's find out!

  Supplies needed:
  1. 3X4 plastic bags (purchased my baggies at Joann's with a 40% off coupon=$1.70
  2. Your ribbon
  3. An old credit card or cardboard similar in size.

Simply start rolling your ribbon on to the cardboard or credit card as shown.  You do not need to be tight with the winding, you want to be able to slide the ribbon off with ease.

Once complete simply put in a plastic baggie.  I placed 3 ribbons into a bag, some of my bulkier or thicker ribbon I stored one in a bag.

So did it all the white ribbon fit into the smaller bin once I converted it all to flat storage?

YES IT DID!

Removing all the ribbon off the spools really did help with fitting all my ribbon into  a smaller bin!  If size and storage space is  a concern for you, this might be a great way to save some space!

By the way, if time is a concern, rolling the ribbon goes by super fast.  I highly recommend you sit back watch your favorite shows like AI, or Extreme Couponing (I am obessed, I think they need to do a craft edition!) and wind away!

Let us know your tips and tricks!  We would love you to share your ideas with us!  Also if there is any topics you would like to see us cover, let us know, you can email us at info@crabbycakesstudio.com and we will see what we can do!

Singing in the Rain 2 page 12x12 layout

Christine was trying to decide which layout to create..  Singing in the Rain or April Showers Bring May Flowers..  Well as you can see from the layout...  the song "Singing in the Rain" got stuck in her head!  Actually while I (Christine) am typing the blog, the song is still in my head!  I can picture Gene Kelly singing and dancing with his umbrella enjoying the weather.

Inspired my the song, Crabby Cakes Studio came up with this layout:

We used Crystal Accents to create the rain drops and puddle for added effect!   At first it seemed like something was missing...  then it hit us..  musical notes.  If you are singing then there must be music!   Isn't the little girl pretty in pink playing in the rain?
This page also has rain drops!

We also put the verse of the song to the right of this cute little blue bird!  He's helping out with the song!

I'm singing in the rain
Just singing in the rain
What a glorious feelin'
I'm happy again
I'm laughing at clouds
So dark up above
The sun's in my heart
And I'm ready for love
Let the stormy clouds chase
Everyone from the place
Come on with the rain
I've a smile on my face
I walk down the lane
With a happy refrain
Just singin',
Singin' in the rain

This layout is available in our etsy shop - check out the link below:

In Response to our tutorial on creating custom tags in Word, one of our followers, Ann asked for a tutorial to create a template for A2 cards that can be cut in the Dreamkutz.

1. Open Word. (For this example we are using Office 2007)
2. Select Mailings.
3. Select Labels.

4. In the Envelopes and Labels pop up window, select Options.

5. In the Label Options pop up window, select New Label.
6. The Label Details pop up window will open. This is where we will set up our custom Label. We will be giving you the settings to create this for both portrait and landscape cards. The first step is to name the labels or cards.
4.25x5.5 Portrait
5.5x4.25 Landscape

7. To create the label, you will need to change the following fields: Label Name, Label Height, Label Width, Number Across, Number Down, Vertical Pitch, Horizontal Pitch, and Page size.

Setting for a 4.25x5.5 Portrait Card Label Height = 5.5"
Label Width = 4.25"
Number Across = 2
Number Down = 2
Page Size = Letter (8 1/2 x 11in)
Vertical Pitch = 5.5"
Horizontal Pitch = 4.25"

Setting for a 4.25x5.5 Portrait Card

Label Height = 4.25"
Label Width = 5.5"
Number Across = 2
Number Down = 2
Page Size = Letter Landscape (11 x 8 1/2in)
Vertical Pitch = 4.25"
Horizontal Pitch = 5.5"

8. The vertical pitch is always equal to the label height and the horizontal pitch is always equal to the label width.

9. To Select Paper Size, click on the down arrow on the right side of the paper size. This will show the drop down box.
10.  When typing your greeting for a portrait card - only type on the right side.  (for this card - I choose the inside greeting to be "All you need is love, but a little chocolate now and then doesn't hurt!  Happy Easter)
10. When typing your greeting for a Landscape card - only type on the bottom.
12.  Print on cardstock and you are ready to cut in the Dreamkutz.

13.  Place cardstock in Dreamcutz according or type of card (portrait or landscape) and cut.   You will have 2 perfectly cut cards!

14.  Fold in half and you are now ready to decorate your card!!
I decorated my card with an original paper piecing design of a cute bunny and now it is ready to be mailed to somebunny special!
Hope you love the tutorial and stop by tomorrow for a free SVG file!
